Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella, Lyft…
So many words that may have you thinking, “What is that AND what does it do?!”
Let’s spend some time talking fillers.
- Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity
- Hyaluronic acid diminishes as we age, causing skin to lose volume while increasing the chances for wrinkles and folds to appear- yikes. No thanks.
What are dermal fillers anyways?
They fill in wrinkles and add volume. You can have dermal fillers in different parts of your face: cheeks, mouth, chin and jawline, as well as lip fillers.
How do they work?
Fillers basically restore lost volume to your face and plump areas, so that deep set lines are smoothed. As we get older our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin, both of which contribute to the youthful look–starting at age 25!! Pretty young, right? Your collagen and elastin levels then decline at a rate of about 2% per year, and your body will have stopped producing it altogether by your late twenties. This is where fillers come in to restore lost volume or add lift.
So, what types of fillers are there and what do they do?
Juvéderm is a collection of fillers and different versions of Juvederm are designed to be used in different areas of the face. Sculptra® Aesthetic works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra Aesthetic helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging.
Sculptra is used to build up cheeks, fill in hollows or sunken areas of the face, and increase skin thickness to diminish the appearance of folds and lines. It is not injected into the lips or used around the eyes.
Radiesse® has the unique ability to both immediately restore lost volume and stimulate your body to produce its own natural collagen for long-lasting results.Radiesse® Dermal Filler is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres which are suspended in a natural, water-based gel. These calcium-based microspheres are similar to minerals that are found naturally in your body so allergy testing is not required. Over time, your body naturally breaks down these tiny microspheres and the gel and leaves behind only your own natural collagen.
Radiesse is used to treat moderate-to-severe facial creases, such as the nasolabial folds. It also can be used to plump up cheeks and other facial contours. It’s not used on the lips.
